During the planning and production of my magazine I came across a few problems and difficulties.
During this magazine I have learnt a lot about media publishing. I have also learnt when I was making my magazine I should have been more productive and used my time better in the way of not rushing my magazine.
When making my magazine my target was to make, publish and create a front cover, contents page and a double page spread of a music magazine which was in the genre of Indie. The main target audience was males between the ages of 14-28.
I believe that my music magazine follows other music magazines such as NME, Kerrang and Q. I think it follows these magazines because of the color in NME and the pictures and text in Q. I think that my front cover, my contents page and my double page spread are suitable for this type of genre.
My front cover is quite effective in the way of the pictures, colors and text fonts. I think it will attract the audience quite well because of these things. Along the top of the front cover there is a red and white banner saying ‘THE ESSENTIAL MUSIC GUIDE’. I think this is very effective and stands out well on my front cover. Below this there is the title of my magazine in red using word art on Microsoft word. This helps my magazine to be suitable for my type of genre. Underneath this there is a quick sharp and snappy and stands out quite well from the picture to make it more appealing to the reader. My picture is off three members of the four in the band because if I would have used four it wouldn’t be the picture that I wanted to turn out on my magazine. I think my picture is very appropriate for my target audience. I have made the picture the whole of the front cover because I think this is what most magazines are like in this particular genre. The picture I used doesn’t have any standing out colors or branding that makes the picture confusing. On my front cover there are also two captions which tell you what is going to be in the magazine. At the bottom of the page there is also another banner in re back ground and white text to stand out from the from the page and to become more appealing to the reader.

The contents page that I have made for my magazine is quite well done I think in the way of the colors to compliment themselves and different type of fonts and texts. My contents page lists all the bands that would be in an indie magazine with also the band which I based my magazine on which is So Far Unknown. Also it has what is going on in this week’s magazine with the different types of story’s and headlines. The images I have used are two different images of the same band in different locations to not make it so repetitive. Also I have used the colors red, white and a lighter blue so it stands out and helps the reader to see it more clearly. I used word art and also the same type of font so it would not be different from the other texts. Also I used little descriptions underneath the pictures to tell the reader what they are about.
My double page spread has the same sort of theme to my other two pages in the way of colors, fonts and pictures. I also used the colors of red and white and yellow which help the words stand out off the page. The pictures I have used are pictures of the band chilling out because I thought that in an interview process I thought it would be better for them looking like a typical rock band. On this double page spread I have made it an interview with some of the members of the band. I have used the same font to keep the whole thing the same and professional for the reader to understand it better. At the top of the page I have put the title of the magazine and the logo which is ‘RW’ and this represents the title of the magazine ‘RockWorld’. I have used 5 pictures in this double page spread that are spaced out quite well. Around the text boxes I have outlined them with white so it will stand out more and catch the reader’s eye. The back ground of this page is red because the theme of my whole magazine is red and white and I think these 2 colors complement each other quite well and in an effective and professional matter.
If I could do this project again I would space my time out better and not rush this project.
Overall I think my media project attracts and addresses my target when I set out to do this and it also focuses on my specific audience. Also I think this magazine is respectable and quite professional and has a suitable color theme for my audience.

Underneath that picture and text on the left hand side of the layout it shows more information which will be in the magazine.

At the bottom of the layout there is another logo and more general information which will be in the magazine.

Audience

The audience I am aiming at is between the ages of 14-30. Also the audience I am aiming at is mostly male because of the sort of magazine I am making.

I am using these ages and this gender because it is the appropriate ages and this gender for the magazine I am producing.

Double page spread layout ideas

The layout ideas for my magazine are also the genre of indie, an idea for the layout is shown above. I am using these ideas because of the text arrangement and the uses of colour and I want my double page spread to look something like these have turned out.

Another idea is a Q magazine sort of layout such as this one.

Contents Ideas for my magazine

The types of contents I am going to be using are contents in magazines such as Q and Kerrang and other contents in this genre for Ideas and analysis.
These contents pages are what I want my contents page to look like in the way of pictures surrounding the text. This helps the reader to know what the text is about by showing pictures of what is in magazine.

Ideas for magazine front cover

The ideas I have for my front cover are such magazine front covers like Q magazine and other front covers in this type of genre such as Indie.

This is one of my ideas that my front cover layout could look like.

Another layout that my front cover could look like is this picture. This picture shows just one of the band members instead of all of them and that is an idea that I could use.

Ideas for magazine

For my magazine I am going to be doing an indie version of a magazine.
I have been looking into versions of indie magazines and Q and kerrang and other magazines like NME are the sort of magazines I am basing my magazine on.

Evaluation
When I started planning the production of my front cover I had a few problems and difficulties.
The main problem was being aware of the back round and surroundings in the picture. When I started taking my first set of pictures I realised that I needed a suitable back round which suited the audience that I was specifically aiming at. Also I had to find a location which didn't have any lighting in the way of anything in my picture.
Another problem I had during this process was that the models that I had used were wearing clothes that had confusing patterns or noticeable branding on them, which meant that I was unable to use those pictures because this was not aloud on my front cover because everything had to be original. When I went out for the second shoot I had to think about all the problems that I had the first shoot and make sure I didn't have them again.
When I was planning I had a few ideas but stuck with one that I thought was suitable for my audience and when taking the shots I chose a few Angles and decided to use the best one for my front cover.
I decided to use 'Word Art' for my headings as it made my heading stand out which was a formal but bold font which I thought was appealing to the audience. I used a bright red colour for the heading and for the logo and underneath I used white text and this made the text stand out from the back round and pull in the reader.
I used 'Microsoft Publisher' to create my front cover. This program enabled me to make the cover to the picture and add headings and other features. In the bottom right hand corner I added an issue date to make it look more official to the reader.
Overall, this picture is suitable to its audience and purpose. The way I have set out the picture has helped me to put the headings and the text in the right place suitable for a magazine. If I was to do this again I would improve my planning by putting more thought into the text, the picture and the heading. I would make sure that I was more organised before I went out and took my first shoot. I'd also put more thought when I was picking my models to show what I was trying to achieve when making my front cover of a a college magazine.

I have decided to focus on more of a Indie back round for my magazine.

I have been doing research into other Indie magazine such as NME and I have found out these types of magazines are aimed at an age of 12-28.
